Many people believe that Jesus' primary message was how to get to heaven after we die.
But the wondrous works of Christ goes far beyond the incredible goal of saving an innumerable number of fallen humanity, but the total redemptive work of Christ is nothing less than redeeming God’s entire creation from the effects of sin. Paradise lost becomes Paradise regained.
As I have begun to take a deeper look at Jesus’ messages, it becomes clearer to me, He was teaching us, that everything must change. The ways in which we interact with one another, friends and family with whom we have conflict, the environment, people of other religions, our way of conducting business. Jesus was teaching us, to repent or rethink everything.
While Jesus was teaching us the souls of humanity need saved, that was only a part of His message. The deeper message is, to me, that in order to save souls, we must also save the world.
But let’s take even that a step further, we can’t save the world without also focusing on the individuals who dwell in it. This is where it becomes integral.
It forces us to say to ourselves, ‘I, as an individual, need to change, but that it cannot stop there! We must learn to transform society as a whole.'
For example, if we only change the environment, but humanity ability to preserve it hasn’t changed, it won’t be long and they’ll ruin it all over again.
We must not only transform the lives of others, but also change ourselves
We as sinners, living in a fallen world, were called into repentance, to rethink literally everything we think, say and do. “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10
Let’s face it, the call to repentance is never an easy call, and quite frankly, it’s a call most people would rather not answer and just let the call go to voice mail.
