What a privilege it is to welcome you to worship today, in the name of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for joining us today.
As many of you are probably already aware, the church of Jesus Christ is being pressed on several fronts, one of which involves a recent Pentagon classification in early June that excluded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from its list of recognized Christian faiths, inciting immediate outrage from church leaders and Utah officials, who argued it contradicts the religion's foundational tenets centered on Jesus Christ. In response, the Pentagon issued a revised list on June 8, 2026, that removed the "Christian" label from all denominations rather than singling out the LDS Church, stating its role is to respect sincerely held faiths rather than define them. Media commentators like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens have raised questions about church finances and theological distinctives, while Allie Beth Stuckey conducted interviews specifically aimed at contrasting Mormon teachings with "creedal Christianity." Many church members have expressed frustration that these attacks often stem from politically aligned sources, with some describing the tone as "vile garbage" and questioning the insecurity driving such critiques. Beyond these external attacks, broader conversations within Christianity itself highlight internal challenges facing churches, including toxic leadership who have become in many cases "untouchable and unaccountable, treating congregations as disposable, the lack of a healthy conflict resolution, and failure to adapt to current cultural changes, clinging to outdated methods and resisting necessary changes to engagement with younger generations. Instead of addressing issues directly, leaders attempt to suppress difficult conversations, prioritizing surface-level "peace keeping" methods, where a few select individuals monopolize control in the resolution process leaving no room for asking questions, allowing resentment among congregants to simmer beneath the surface or resulting in long time congregants leaving, a trend many pretend not to notice as the focus shifts to numerical growth, attracting a steady stream of newcomers seeking entertainment, where individuals may regularly attend services but tend to remain spiritually passive, ultimately transforming the church into a social club rather than God's army, a vibrant force ready for spiritual battle. Consequently, this dynamic often alienates existing members, leading to stagnation in spiritual growth and a loss of purpose, as leadership struggles to maintain meaningful connections.
We are living in an hour when the world is not just changing around us; it is trying to redefine us. These assaults are no longer coming from one direction, but from every direction—secularism in the culture, confusion in our children, cynicism in our cities, compromise in our pulpits—all at the same time. I believe it is more crucial than ever for the church today to be spiritually credible, pastorally wise, and culturally discerning, and to represent the holiness of Christ in a culture that celebrates sin and exalts self as lord. If Christ’s church believes His return is real, then its time His people must stop acting like this world is permanent and start prioritizing living holy lives like the King of kings could appear at any given moment. Because we, as the children of God experience the joy of His blessings, answer prayers, and witness first hand God’s goodness in our lives, nothing in this world can fully quiet the holy longing of our redeemed hearts. When Christ is truly the treasure of your soul, then the greatest hope of your life is not a better job, a more stable financial life, or a less hostile world. Your greatest hope is the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is where I believe the church must learn to feel the weight of our text today.
The real danger lies not in how little we know about Christ’s return, the danger is in knowing enough to talk about it, sing about it and yet failing to tremble before the reality of it. My dear friends, Jesus is not inviting us to predict the date of His day or to attempt to figure out who the Anti-Christ is. He is commanding us to live in daily anticipation of His glorious return. I'd like you to notice that Scripture never treats Christ's return as a topic for idle speculation, in fact it prohibits it, strongly warning against wildly guessing at specific dates, when the primary mandate for followers of Christ is to live every day in a state of moral preparedness, waiting for the unknown hour, focusing on holiness, emphasizing that no one knows the exact day or hour, not even the angels or the Son, but only the Father. In order to secure your foundation on the Second Coming of Christ, I want to point out a couple of things that demand His return before we get into our text.
First, the promises of God in the Old Testament demands the literal physical return of Jesus Christ. God made a number of promises in the Old Testament that there would come a Messiah who would set up an everlasting kingdom. We'll not go through then all, but I'll just give you a few. For example, in 2 Samuel 7:12-13, "When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up one of your seed after you, who will come forth from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever." In Psalm 2 God actually speaks. In fact, He speaks out of anger, "But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain. I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth as Your possession." Then, in Isaiah 9:7, "There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will accomplish this."
Secondly, the teaching of Jesus Himself on inevitable fulfillment of Old Testament promises regarding an everlasting kingdom and the Messiah’s eternal reign demands that He literally, physically return. Look at John 14:2-3, "In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also." In Matthew 16:27-28, Jesus said For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay each one according to his deeds. Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." Then, in Matthew 24:30-31, He describes His return, "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other." Next, in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, the apostle Paul writes that "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord." And, in Revelation 1:7, John states that "Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. Yes, amen." Lastly, in Luke 21:25-28, Jesus discloses His own Second Coming, saying "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth anguish among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
There is something deeply unsettling about how comfortable the church today has become with sin, often mirror the immoral behavior of their unchurched friends and neighbors, leaving Christ’s redemptive work with little perceived value. Today's church and the world has made Christ into some sort a Genie. They mock Him freely. They scorn Him. They reject Him with their willful disobedience, shallow repentance as if Christ’s return is a distant theological concept rather than an imminent, earth-shattering reality. Make no mistake this world has not seen the last of Christ.
In 2 Peter chapter 3, our beloved Peter writes, "knowing this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation." For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being deluged with water. But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some consider slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be found out.
Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens burning will be destroyed, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells." The Holy Scriptures are not merely ancient historical documents replete with information aiming to increase human knowledge while allowing for living an immoral lifestyle. Churches are meant to withstand wickedness and shine the light of Christ the Lord into the darkened corners of this fallen world. Not to become part of it, by celebrating the sin which God has condemned. When you lose that perspective in the ministry, you forfeit your creditability and spiritual power of God. Romans 8:9 states, "Now, if any man not have the Spirit of Christ he is none of His." Without the Spirit, you lack a spiritual relationship with Him. Mark it, true Christians are controlled by the Holy Spirit, not the flesh, and it is the presence of the Holy Spirit is the validation of their union with Christ. Instead of instantly saying, "Yes," giving in to temptation, try saying, "No to temptation and Yes," to what you know is right, the Word of God. Instead of instantly saying, "Yes," giving in to temptation, try saying, "No" to temptation and "Yes," to what you know is right, the Word of God. Anything you do in repetition, the mind will absorb as habit. Before you know it, you'll become more and more obedient to Christ.
The greatest tragedy isn't that the unbelieving word is unprepared for the return of Jesus Christ—that's to be expected. The greatest tragedy is that the church has been distracted by worldly cares, like the "foolish virgins" left completely unprepared for the arrival of her Groom. It is a very sobering reality that confronts the modern church: those who profess the name of Jesus Christ who often live as though precious His truth carries little weight. Scripture does not treat indifference lightly. In fact, it exposes it as a dangerous spiritual condition—one that reveals not merely weakness, but misplaced devotion. In Revelation 3:15–16, Jesus Himself warned "I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot… because you are lukewarm… I will spit you out of my mouth.” Indifference is not neutrality; it is rejection in disguise. The call of Christ has never been casual. From the beginning, discipleship required total allegiance, often leaving their jobs, families and material possessions. Jesus declared in Luke 9:23, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Yet today, many who claim His name pursue a version of Christianity that demands little and transforms less. It is a faith trimmed to fit comfort, stripped of sacrifice, and disconnected from obedience.

Heavenly Father,
Father, we thank You for Your Word. Your unchanging Truth exposes the true condition of our hearts. Father, we confess that we have let the world shape our thoughts, soften our convictions, dull our consciences, until we have grown comfortable with compromise, because we have loved our sin more than we feared You. We readily speak out against the evil in condemnation of others, yet when it has suited us, we have called that same evil good, making excuses for our sin because sin has corrupted every aspect of our humanity. Lord, give us new eyes to see sin as You see it, create in us clean hearts and renew our hatred of sin, our hunger for righteousness, and joyful obedience to Christ. We desperately need humility in our pulpits and our pews, let the power of the Gospel that saved us now sanctify us, that our lives may become visibly, radically different from the those of the world. Father, if there are any in our midst who’ve never fully surrendered their life to Jesus Christ, I pray that You would make that happen today, including those in our own families. We ask and pray these things in Christ's precious name for Your glory, and for His sake.

Today's Message: Will The Day We All Long For Come-Part 2
There are many Christians walking around today, who seem not to understand the meaning of real commitment, they are at best, superficial, complacent, and indifferent to principals clearly laid out in Scripture. Today, by the power of the Holy Spirit, I want to speak conviction into our hearts, not to crush us but to awaken us and remind each and every one of us that God not only calls us to a higher standard, and He also gives us grace to rise.
Beloved, it's time we examine ourselves, I mean really examine ourselves and stop comparing ourselves to others and measure ourselves by the Word of God, facing the uncomfortable truth, we've been more committed to our sin than we've been faithful in our commitment to Christ. We've treated salvation as something we pick up on Sundays or when life gets too hard, but quickly set it aside again when it conflicts with our career, our comfort, or the culture. When the main thing is not the main thing the consequences are not just serious, they are potentially devastating!
We sing "I surrender all" while clutching tightly to our own coveted sin, resistant to any real change in our lives. I'm here to tell you that this indifference deeply grieves the heart of God. It weakens our witness before the watching world, who sees Christians indistinguishable from the culture and therefore, rightly questions our message about our salvation and our Redeemer. It's time that we as Christians stop making comfortable excuses and start living the salvation we claim to possess. Yes, Jesus loves you, but He loves you enough to confront you and your sin. When you are truly born again, when you enter into God’s spiritual kingdom, a tremendous change takes place, you become a totally different person, you are a new creation in Christ, the old sin nature is replaced by a new nature that desires God and His righteousness. (2 Corinthians 5:17) While Christians are not yet sinless, being dead to sin, (Romans 6:11) you are no longer enjoy sinning as you did before, it's make you uncomfortable; clear evidence of the Holy Spirit's work in your life! Instead of a lifestyle choice it becomes a source of conviction and conflict. That's is what it means to die to self and live for Christ. In other words, as a follower of Christ you have an obligation to walk worthy of the high calling placed on your life. live, but Christ lives in me” So, who is living your life? Is it the presence of Christ dwelling in you or your old self, with the old sinful desires? It's not too late. I promise you there is joy on the other side of surrender! Deeper intimacy with Christ. As we get closer and closer to the day of our Lords return, the more frequent the attacks on the deity of Christ, the attacks on the resurrection and the attacks on the Second Coming of the Lord will become. They're deceived, it's going to happen, don't be ridiculous, the destruction of Satan demands it. Yes, He will come for His church and gather us to Himself. But He's not going to come until all the believers who were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world for salvation are redeemed. If you're not in the spiritual kingdom, you'll never be in the physical kingdom. Spiritual rebirth is a prerequisite for participation in God's Kingdom. When true Christians get together, we sing praise to the Lord because the Spirit of God has born a song in our hearts. In James 5:13, he says if your heart is filled with joy, you’ll sing, because God has given us song as an expression of joy. Many Christians insist that music should be used as some sort of evangelistic tool. Do you want to know something? There is no place in Scripture where the Lord says "If you’re going to be able reach the world for Christ through music, you got to do the kind of music the world is listening to." Nowhere. In fact, there's no place in Scripture where God says sing the Gospel of Christ; but He does say preach it, to teach it and to live it. We've never been commanded by the Word of God to reach the unbelieving world by singing to them, to whip them up into a frenzy, playing on their emotions. God never ever said that. My conviction is the Gospel is to be preached as the power of God unto salvation. Music act upon the emotions.
I believe that we have lost sight of that in the church today. God is not interested in music that sound like the worlds music, if He did, He wouldn't have called us out of the world, to be set apart. I cannot understand why Christians would want to identify with music that sounds like the worlds music anyway. Christians need to understand something, music is one of the ways Satan attacks us. We want someone to commit their life to Christ because they heard the Gospel preached and they were convicted by the Spirit of God, not because they liked a song. Satan attacks us to make us worldly, to push us into the mold formed by the world, rather than God, to cause us to play the hypocrite. Quite frankly, I believe he's been very successful at it, never before in my lifetime have I seen the church of Christ so worldly, so materialistic, so self-centered, so self-indulgent. Satan has sent us the Trojan Horse and we thrown the doors wide open and welcomed him in. And, inside the Trojan Horse, is Christian sounding music that plays upon our emotions, music that can be played across the board, hitting the top 100 on secular radio stations. Unbelievers don't understand music directed at God, nor can they write songs that truly honor Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:14 says the natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. Do you want to know something else? There is no place in Scripture where the Lord says "If you’re going to be able reach the world for Christ, you've got to do it through music, you got to sing the kind of music the world is listening to." Nowhere.
I am thoroughly convinced that contemporary Christian music is another one of Satan's deceptive traps, it replaces biblical doctrine with man-centered false theology and unbiblical practices, sadly, the church today has fallen for it, lock, stock and barrel, imagining somehow that by pleasing ourselves, we're pleasing God. God's not pleased with the music of the world. Amos 8:3, "And they will wail with the songs of the palace in that day," declares Lord Yahweh. “Many will be the corpses; in every place they will cast them forth in silence." Christians have no business loving anything to do with the world.
John says in 1 John 2:15, "Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." Matthew 15:18 emphasizes the tongues reveals what heart conceals. "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false witness, slanders." I don't want to beat this to death, but the church is drowning in worldliness, when what we need is holiness.

Open your Bibles with me, if you would please keep them open, to the Gospel of Luke chapter 17, verses 22-37. I'd like to encourage to follow along with me as I read, not just to follow along with your eyes, but with an open heart and an open mind. Because what we are about to encounter is not merely a casual conversation—it is a sobering word from our Lord Jesus Christ about a reality that many would rather ignore or deny all together; His Second Coming. If you're not certain about whether or not you want to embrace Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, I pray there will be something in our message today that will prick your heart and point you toward Christ. I'll read the entire text and then, we'll pick up where we left off, with verse 24. Luke 17:22-37.

Let's begin by looking at verse 24, "For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day." Jesus is correcting false expectations, saying when He returns, nobody is going to be left wondering if it's going to happen. His appearing will be unmistakable, bearing authority—globally visible like lightning that instantly fills the sky, from one end of the sky to the other. We're not talking about the rapture where the Lord takes His church to glory, the event that kicks off the Great Tribulation, the seven year period leading up the to the Second Coming. The first 3 1/2 years is known as beginning of sorrows, marked by increasing global instability, deception, and natural disasters. Followed by the second 3.5 years characterized by intensified judgment, suffering, the rise of the Antichrist, who will break the peace covenant with Israel midway through, setting up his image in the temple known as the "abomination of desolation," when God disciplines Israel and executes final judgment on the unbelieving world. We know this period ends with the Second Coming of Christ, who will defeat the armies of the Antichrist and establishes His kingdom after having judged the world of ungodly men and women, where the wicked are resurrected after the Millennium concludes for final judgment known as the Great White Throne Judgment; those not found in the Book of Life are cast into the lake of fire, as we learn in the book of Revelation 20:7–15.
Verse 25, "But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation." This is an essential in the unfolding events preceding His coming, because the Kingdom can't come until He finishes His work here on earth. He said it frequently, He must suffer, we won't go through hem all but in Matthew 16:21, He said "He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day." In Mark 8:31, He said that "the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again." Luke 9:43–45, He said speaking about His death and resurrection, "But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples, "Put these words into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men." But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement." And, in John 3:14–15, He said "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life." And, in John 12:47-48, He said " And if anyone hears My words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. He who rejects Me and does not receive My words, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him on the last day."
He was rejected by that generation He often characterized as unbelieving, faithless, perverse with great sadness. When the rejection of Jesus Christ by Israel ends and Israel will be saved.

Jesus’s return will not be delayed by human skepticism, and it will not be canceled by human indifference. It will be just the same as it was in the days of Noah. Do you remember what the millions of people were doing? They were going about their normal daily life.
Verse 27 says "They were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all." Jesus is telling us something very, very important here about people's attitudes at the time when our Lord comes in Judgment. Life will going on as "normal" just like it was in the days of Noah when the Great Flood drowned the entire world. This is a wake up call for the church! The days just before Christ’s coming will be marked by wickedness and spiritual indifference, not spiritual alertness preparedness, but ordinary life with sexual immorality running rampant, violence growing worse and worse, complete abandonment of God's design for marriage, erosion of the family unit; the world will unaware and indifferent to the signs of His coming, focused on daily routines, consumed with worldly pleasures, all "flesh" leading to a false sense of security. The world today is replicating the same conditions that led to the Flood. While the world is expected to ignore the signs of His Coming, we are as believers, urged to recognize the signs of the times and live as a prepared bride, awaiting her beloved Groom. When day comes, it will come suddenly, unexpectedly and devastatingly; when the window of opportunity closes, it's too late, and the whole world will be left without hope. This is very unsettling, horrific even to think about it. I'd like you to notice something important, before the coming day of Judgement, Noah and his family were safely in the Ark. God will again rescue His own in the rapture of the church. The entire church must live in the light of that promise because the pattern of time of Noah, the time of Lot, and the time of the coming of the Son of Man still lives on.
And, if that isn't clear enough, look at verses 28 and 29, "It was the same as in the days of Lot—they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building; but on the day that Lot went out from Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all." It was the same in Lot's day, it was characterized by extreme perversity, wickedness and evil. Sound familiar? It's like same today. Warning always comes before Judgment. Before it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all, Lot and his two daughters were rescued.
That brings us to verse 30, where we'll stop until next time. "It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed." Friends, notice again the pattern here, it's going to be in the time of the coming of the Son of Man. This teaching is so clear, I cannot understand how anyone with any knowledge of the Bible can be a post-millennialist. Though the season of His coming can be unmistakably discerned by the glaring signs of ongoing moral decay and spiritual indifference that surround us, the exact day and hour of that final horrible deadly day of devastation will remain unknown, until it suddenly falls upon the world. Make no mistake, the patience of God is not the absence of judgment; it is His mercy, giving the wicked time to repent. How does this apply to the church today? Because this world is not our eternal home, with everything we see going on around us, we should be, more than ever, living in our eternal promise, preparing to meet our King!
